[Historical] Trip on the Ratty

(20th February 2009)

During the Half-term holiday, Chrissy and Cathy took the kids on the Ratty for the day.
Way to go, Geoff, for getting these up. Hopefully I'll add the stories to go with these soon.
Chris

Looks like tons of fun. How long is the ride?

Narrow guage railway, originally for mining. Geoff thinks it's at least 7 miles and we did the round trip starting at the top, Dalegarth which is how Cathy usually does it and she was driving.
Interestingly, Cathy and I enjoyed the ride a lot with the only negative being all and I mean all the kids whinning about how boring it was. I thought we had a few more years before hitting that, but Ruth is still doing it. ARGH....

Did a quick check - the current line is 7 miles from Ravenglass to Dalegarth in Eskdale. It used to go further to support the mines & quarries, and parts of the old track bed are still visible. For more info, try http://www.ravenglass-railway.co.uk
